Body Care

Nutrition:
If you are not familiar with what the body needs to function properly, get a book covering basic nutrition. Not one focused on any particular eating method or diet, just one that shows you what you need to function properly and optimally.

Red meat is not the only source of protien. In fact, domesticated red meat has a very high fat content and should be used sparingly in a diet. There are many other sources of protein available tht will also add to your muscles without adding to your waistline. Fish, Chicken, Turkey, Beans and Peas, Natural yogurts and even Nuts. These foods in conjunction with fruits, vegetables, whole grains (cereal and breads), and some dairy products will offer an unending variety of meal options and the necessary nutrients to help build a strong body and any age.

As a general rule, if you feel you need to fill your plate to be full, keep the meat portion to the size of your palm, and fill the balance of the plate with a variety of vegetables. It will go a long way towards improving and maintaining your health.

Consider taking a multi-vitamin as well. There are those who say you should get all you need from your diet. But there is evidence that even if you eat right, food today doesn't have the same nutritional quality as 50 years ago. This covers what might be missed and it's thought by many it will improve your sense of well being, attitude, and performance. I am not talking about any "mega" supplements or other fancy things. Just a basic vitamin that provides around 100% of the recomended daily allowance. Anything more is likely wasted.

Avoid junking out on sugar. Especially before exercise. It doesn't help. It can have a negative effect in fact. Many of the "power" drinks we now see are merely sugar and caffeine. You would probably do good to always avoid them. Sleep longer....

Good sources of energy can be found in whole grains and pastas, potatoes and a variety of fruits and vegetables. I find a turkey sandwich an hour before a workout gives me plenty of energy.

Drink a lot of water too. Many suggest
